FIRST YEAR - Research

The aim of this week’s task is to provide clear evidence of the research you will undertake. Within your post you will discuss in depth, review and consider a variety of research and resources that relate to your stimulus, allowing you to explore deeper into the purpose/ meaning behind your solo. Think about how each resource relates to your initial stimuli, how will it give greater depth and insight to your piece and how will your observations enhance your creative work as you move forward?

By carefully reviewing your research in detail it will offer new questions for your consideration and may help you identify areas you might not have considered within your project. In your post include ways to show the reader that you have used your research to ‘think outside the box’ and go the extra step?’

Remember it is important that you include a wide variety of resources!

FIRST YEAR - Creative Development - Session 1

WEEK 7 - CREATIVE SESSION 1 – What creative devices or processes will you use at the start to develop movement material for your piece, what is your personal creative process and has this altered with the information you have discovered about how your chosen choreographer begins their creative process? Discuss your observations of the chosen practitioner and look at how this information has been integrated within your OWN creative work. Record elements of your creative process and discuss how you arrived at this point. Reflect on your work and direction so far, is this going as hoped? Are you finding the work challenging or empowering? Identify a selection of feedback you have received (e.g. include your time management schedule, etc) and discuss if/how this will impact your piece. (2-3 min Vlog)

Week 7 - Submission date: Monday 4th November 17:00

SECOND YEAR - Creative Development - Session 3 (28/10)

FIRST YEAR - Stimuli

This weeks lesson consisted of an intense and interesting discussion around 8 choices of stimulus resources.

Task: Discuss in your Blog post your thoughts and ideas for a solo performance piece based on discussions around the stimuli. This does not have to be your final idea, more of a scrap book of your thoughts and ideas.

Think about:
- what first impressions/ feelings came you for each stimuli (give more depth to the stimuli's you were more interested in)?
- what questions/ ideas did the group discussion bring up? (other interesting points of view)
- which stimuli were you most drawn to - why?

It will be helpful to read and comment on the posts of your peers to help add depth and support your first ideas.

(400 words) or a 3-4 min Vlog

Remember to use images to help illustrate your ideas.

SECOND YEAR - Creative Development - Session 1 (07/10)

Start your creative process by following your devised plan made last week.

What you should already have:
- Plan of 10 minute piece - what narrative/ intentions do you want to portray throughout?
- Ensue to give purpose to each section of your plan - what emotions do you want to portray? how do you want your audience to feel?
- Movement Plan - what choreographic devices/ movement structures will you use to enhance your theme? What research will you undertake to add depth to the creation of your piece and enhance how you portray your theme e.g. gestures, intentions etc
- Music for 10 minute piece

Task: Discuss how your plan is going to be broken down in your group. Undertake any research that will enhance and add depth to your work. Discuss how your findings have influenced your piece/ stimulated movement development. Include videos of your created movement based on your research to show this. Discuss your work direction so far, what have you achieved and is this going as hoped? Are you finding the work challenging or empowering? Discuss how you are working as a team - have you encountered any obstacles, if so how did you overcome them? What will you do to ensure you are sustaining good team qualities.

Using a critical eye, please ensure you comment on 3 other people's posts per task each week - note they do not have to be in the opposite group! Please go back to previous tasks and do this if you have not done so.

(500 words)

As you are going into your research stage please ensure you are referencing your work, including relevant quotes and a clear bibliography at the bottom. You should be using Harvard's method of citation to do this.

Please post by Friday 11th October 17:00

If you have any questions please let me know.

FIRST YEAR - Key Practitioners Lesson 2

This week we continued our research looking at two other key practitioners, Wayne McGregor and Crystal Pite.

During the lesson we analysed video's relating to each choreographers work and creative process and started to generate material using their specific methods.

The videos we observed were:

Crystal Pite:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYv1vQ-5wKk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tSBkT9AFWA

Wayne McGregor:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWNQK8y50SI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHITNtb4NGQ

I found these video's particularly inspiring as we were able to clearly understand as well as physically see each choreographer within the development stage of their creative process.

The creative task we experimented incorporated visualisation with the specific idea of creating movement based of rain rolling down a window. We experimented using different levels, sizes, speeds, partner work and even the idea of reversing the movement. We also watched a video to help!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-OYsfDUtZQ

Over the past few weeks we have generated movement based on a variety of contrasting creative exercises, including:
- Name
- Phone Number
- Zodiac
- Shape/ Patterns
- Rain Concept

Task: By reviewing your reflective notes of the session you will discuss, reflect and review your experience in the session. In your post discuss how you responded to the more creative exercises, what did you find easy or difficult? Review your starting objective and if you achieved this in practice, was it readable to your audience? what feedback did you receive? Has this process allowed you to form your own ideas for your own creative processes to create movement? If so, what are your new ideas?
(400 words)

Please complete this task by Tuesday 8th October 17:00.

As discussed during class please also start to have a look at your selection of Stimuli's for your creative solo project. Start to brainstorm any first impressions/ feelings and ideas for each starting point. Also start to have a think about which choreographer you are most drawn to.

The link for all your information is below:

Please also remember to keep commenting on each others blogs. You should be critically analysing 3 different people's posts per task set. Please go back and look at each others if you have not already - you will need to be signed into your blogger.com website in order to do this.

Please also double check your layouts of your blogs.

If you have any questions please let me know.
